Henri Rousseau
Surprised Tiger
1891
Henri Rousseau is well known for drawing a lot of jungle
scenes, even though apparently he had never visited any tropical places
himself. A lot of his work was thought to be ‘flat, seemingly childish style was disparaged by many critics’ (Wikipedia, 2012)
and it does seem to have completely different qualities about it, being a bit
flat rather than realistic. But his works have a lot of interesting shapes of environment
and have a really creative way of expressing these natural elements which makes
them personally appealing to me. A lot of his shapes of exotic leaves were used
in my work because of that. Also another thing which I liked about Rousseau’s works
is that there are a lot of different bright colors and shades. Obviously some
of the coloring schemes I used in my paintings too. He is quiet a genius i have
to admit, and a lot of his other works always have some new and interesting environments
in them that can always be inspiring
